Calorie Diet
So what is a Calorie Diet? And What can I do to reduce my calorie intake?
These questions and more will be answered in this article.
First and foremost two out of every three Americans eat too many calories each day. It is one of the leading causes for the staggering rise in chronic disease in our country. On a less life-threatening but still pretty important note, too many calories is the reason why so many of us have to go up a clothes size every couple of years
It's no real surprise that our diet is so full of calories. There's just so much temptation. High calorie, sugary, fat foods and drinks are everywhere we look. There's a whole retail science dedicated to enticing people to grab a snack while buying gas or a loaf of bread. Or waiting for a train or walking the street or every other part of our waking life.
The two types of calories.
Now, don't get all excited but simply eating less calories (though it's certainly not easy). There's either empty calories or rich calories.
Empty calories are those with little or no nutritional value. They may give you a short burst of energy but not much more for your body. Many people eating way too many calories are, in fact, under-nourished.
Rich calories are those that have some level of nutrient in them. They contain vitamins, minerals, protein, carbohydrates, good fat etc. in various combinations. Diet food with good nutritional value is the goal.
Before we take a look at a few strategies to reduce your calories, the recommended daily Calorie Diet consumption for adults is:
Women 19-50 years - 1940
Men 19-50 years - 2550
It's easy enough to consume those levels before you leave home for work every morning.
Countering the calories
To start on a lower Calorie Diet you could dust off the calculator and get counting each and every thing that goes into your mouth. Not a bad idea but not always practical.
No, at AllNutrition.net we believe the best way to start is to gradually introduce more nutritious foods into your diet while, at the same time, gradually reducing the empty calories, the fatty and sugary food. Every meal, every day think before you eat.
Fill up on nutrients not calories
The more you introduce better, more nutrient dense foods into every meal, the less room you'll have for the empty calories. So when thinking about your Calorie Diet think about rich calories.
Again, do it gradually. Keep at it. You'll start to actually crave those good foods more and more.
Enjoy!
