Diet Food
I think the definition of Diet Food has changed a lot in recent years.
With more and more education about proper nutrition and diets for weight loss, we are now better informed about what an effective diet really is. And it's not what the marketers used to tell us.
When I now think of foods that help in weight-loss many options spring to mind. Here's just a sample of the things you should consider when choosing a diet. (Most of these foods have many other nutritional value but here we'll just concentrate on those that help with weight).
Top Diet Foods
* Low GI foods - Keep you fuller for longer, so less snacking and hunger pains. But look for ones with not too much sugar.
* Vegetables. The King or Queen of Diet Food. Cooked with your Weight in mind (that is not deep-fried) you can eat as much of these as you like. Too many benefits to name.
* High protein - again keep you feeling fuller for longer.
* Fruit - although high in sugar they still contain lots of vitamins and minerals plus fiber. Maybe just limit to 3 serves a day.
* High fiber - fiber absorbs water so it also helps to satisfy your hunger.
* Nuts, seeds, pulses - filling, some are good sources of protein and fiber, tasty. Look for Low GI varieties like pumpkin, sunflower, peas, beans. A diet for weight loss should contain a small daily dose of nuts and seeds.
* Wholegrains - grains are high in carbohydrates which we all need for energy. Wholegrains have more nutrients and fiber.
* Water - yeah, I know, not exactly a food but still a great tummy filler. Try sparkling water for a little variety.
What to avoid
* High GI foods - your body burns them quickly leaving you hungry quicker than low GI foods.
* Low GI foods that are high in sugar. A trick for new GI players. Not all GI foods are created equal.
* Processed, refined foods. Generally low GI and low in nutrition
* Sugary Foods - high in calories. Say no more.
* Salty Food - apart from other dietary negatives, salt in your body retains water. Less salt, less weight in water.
The final, unavoidable element for your diet is exercise. Coupled with nutritious, sensible Diet Food you’re well on your way to weight-loss.
Enjoy!
