Diet Review
If it's a Diet Review you're after, then this article will help. I've reviewed and taken so many diets and programs and diet foods and supplements and...you get the picture. I'll give you my review of all the diets I've experienced.
As an average, everyday person I'll give you the average, everyday person perspective of diets. I'm no nutritionist or dietician.
I started my Diet Review in my research for AllNutrition.net. I have to admit, though, a few selfish motives. As much as this site is all about sharing diet and nutrition ideas it's also about helping me lose some weight. Currently I'm 85 kilos and should be 76 kilos. I'll be satisfied if my diet and exercise can get me to 79 kilos. 6 kilos are going to lose themselves!
So in my Diet Review I have found so many ideas, opinions, opinions dressed as facts, snake oil and science that my mind hurts.
One week I'm trying the Cave Man diet, the next an all greens diet, no carbs after lunch, all manner of brand name diets and programs (at last count I've tried 4), low carb/high protein, high carb/ low protein.
Is this chopping and changing of weight loss diets sound familiar to you? Has anything really worked?
Diet Review - why diets don't work?
There's so many reasons I've made a quick list
- Can't find ingredients
- Rest of the family won't eat it
- Expensive
- Cooking for 1
- Plain boring
- Hard to keep it up when time poor
- Always seem to be preparing and cooking
For me, it's summed up in one word - "impractical". It's hard enough changing my diet for weight loss but to change my whole lifestyle along with it? Nice idea on paper.
Diet Review - what works?
The only diet that works is one that gives you a few simple ideas and let's you go.
Here's another quick list. There's not many points because there's not many things to do to lose weight. Promise.
- Eat less. "Um, yeah, I know that" I can almost hear you say.
- Eat good-for-you food. "Kinda know that one as well".
- Exercise. "Good one Einstein".
- Motivation. What's your "Why?". Why do you want to lose weight? Once you have the answer ask "why?" is that the answer. Keep going until you uncover the deepest motivation. It works.
OK, I know you know these things. But in all my Diet Review research these 3 things keep coming up. Not usually put so simply but it really is as simple as that.
A few ideas to get you started.
- Filling foods - Low GI foods, high protein, high fiber, low salt (or any combination of these). Less hunger, less eating.
- Good-for-you foods - go natural and unprocessed wherever you can. Reduce sugar. Lots of vegetables - find the ones you like. And if there's such a thing, vegetables your kids or partner like.
- Exercise - walk, just walk. Look for any opportunity to walk.
I trust this Diet Review has saved you some time and confusion in research. The main idea is to start. Start today.
Enjoy!
