Diet Meals
Why do my toes curl and stomach turn when I think about Diet Meals? I guess because I imagine
tasteless, grey, tasteless, boring, tasteless, bland and barely digestible. Did I mention I think diet foods are tasteless?
To be fair, any meal has to try pretty hard to impress me. By trying hard I mean I enjoy lots of flavor in my meals. I'm a self-confessed sugar fiend. I love salt. And fatty foods just sing to me...usually in a operatic soprano funnily enough.
The good news is that diets aren't what they used to be. There's such an explosion of weight loss diets that food manufacturers have cottoned on and now there's a dazzling array of prepared choices.
I'd like to look at Diet Meals more from a helicopter's point of view. What ways you can make meals for you and your family that help their diet and, if needed, lose some pounds.
Firstly, a good diet, one that meets your weight goals, must be a balanced one. Less bad stuff (you know what they are!) and more good stuff. If you don't know what they are think vegetables, vegetables and vegetables. The fresh kind. Replace sugary, fatty, salty foods with fresh vegetables and watch the weight go. diet low carbohydrate as well - we just eat too many carbs.
It takes time and patience (with 3 young boys I know how hard it is to get them eating vegetables). As the posters say in gyms (apparently as I don't go to gyms) "No Pain. No Gain".
I've found a good way to start on introducing more Diet Meals into your routine is to add more low GI ingredients. Not that low GI means low fat or low salt or even low sugar. However, meals with a healthy amount of low GI foods will keep your hunger away.
The reason I like low GI meals for my weight-loss diet is that they are mostly very familiar to me.
Think oatmeal, multi grain bread, low fat milk (actually so is full fat milk), pasta, sweet potato, yoghurt and sweet corn. And that's just for starters. There's plenty of others out there and many are labeled.
Other great ingredients in your diet are foods rich in fiber and protein. These are also helpful foods to feel fuller for longer.
Diet Meals rich in vegetables, low GI foods, protein and fiber will give you plenty of variety and taste.
Enjoy!
